Marker tracking also known as image targets or natural feature tracking is a form of augmented reality where a creator can anchor an experience to a designated object/image/feature irregardless of if it is geofenced or not. Some common examples are creating immersive logos, business cards, magazines, advertisements, canvased art works, and murals. This section will help you get set up with illust's marker tracking module.
Enable Marker Tracking: this is a toggle that turns on the marker tracking feature. It will also create a new publishing tab/AR demo link in the top right corner.
Marker Name: this is a shortcode for the marker you plan to use for the experience. Currently markers need to be submitted to illust for verification before they can be used. (please note: not all markers are great markers. Please make sure there's a good level of contrast of colors being used with the marker. For example, QR codes work so well because they use the same computer vision technology used for marker tracking.)
Marker Preview Image: this is an image that helps a visitor to your AR experience know what to look for in the world. This could be a picture of your art work, a shirt, or a mural wall.
Marker Tracking Transforms: similar to the world tracking transforms, this module helps you anchor your AR experience relative to the location of your marker tracker (image target).
Position: in relation to the origin (0,0,0) which is anchored directly on the image target, the position gives a creator the ability to trigger the specific location where they would like for the AR experience to appear on first load.
Rotation: this feature rotates the model around a specific axis (X,Y, or Z) in degrees 0, 90, 270, -90, -270, etc. in relation to the image target. Be sure that the format is 0 space 0 space 0 (fill in the 0 with 0, 90, 270, -90, -270, etc.)
Scale: this feature changes the size of the model, the larger the numbers, the larger the model. All models automatically start at (1 1 1). Be sure that the format is 1 space 1 space 1 (fill in with any numbers you'd like)
